naymz.com review

www.naymz.comIts like LikedIn, only uglier, more wonky and based off a random points system. I joined Naymz.com because a few of my coworkers were on it, but it seems to me that it is just a poorly designed site.

First Naymz is using a poor color palette, a dull orange and a pale drab blue. It is not a brighter, more appealing vibrant orange like the old cingular orange, but a drab shade of the color. Not appealing at all (and I thought that we were through the 2000-2005 orange fad). Second the site has some weird usability issues. They seem to like these odd pop-up windows that seem to detract from the user experience. Wonky! Third, a points system. Today I have 319 RepScore points!!!! Cool… I guess that means that I am better than someone with 300 points and less of a person than someone with 400 points… right. I don’t get the site. It is a little messed up. I vote to stick to LinkedIn. It has much better usability and looks—with a better defined goal.

  • exactly. Except for a strong attempt to suck in money on LinkedIn contacts, I do not see anything in the site.

  • Thanks Mark. I am glad that I’m not the only one that had a bullshit alarm go off when I joined.

  • Disgrunted Naymz User

I resent the way they do business.

First they encourage you to import your Linked-in contacts to their database. This is free.

Then they pester you with e-mails telling you about other people on your contact list who are members (don’t mention whether they are paying members or not, or just someone suckered in by the initial P.R. gimmick).

Then they pester you with multiple e-mails telling you ’someone’ has visited your profile, but to find out who, you have to pay money, well the first month is free as long as you give them your credit information.

The site is all about pressure and extortion. They want you to commit to them before they give you any legitimate basis to believe it isn’t an utter waste of time and money.

I refuse to join and plan to cancel my membership to Naymz. Linked-in is free and vastly better, and I know way more people who are using Linked-In to their benefit. I don’t know anyone who is benefitting from Naymz except Naymz whenever they get a sucker to pay them money through sneaky marketing techniques.

  • I did create an account because I received an invitation from a former colleague – too bad the invitation appeared to be issued by an automated system, and not the actual person.

Only today I decided to check what people though about the site. I agree with Disgrunted Naymz User, and I cancelled membership just now.

Reading the FAQs the most viewed topic is the blasted rep score and the second is… unsubscribing, go figure (the OP’s bullshit alarm was right after all).

Linked-In is far better and quite frankly it looks, feels and is more professional and business oriented.

  • Definitely a very hard-sell approach. Marketing/solicitations feel pushy, underhanded and too frequent. My suggestion… deliver the VALUE first, then maybe I’ll pay to subscribe. Unfortunately, the only benefit I’ve seen so far is the SEO. The “someone visited your profile” emails are EXTREMELY annoying. Already set the spam filter to disregard.
